WEIRD: Nigeria's Fascination with Witches Sinks to a New Low!

Eket, Nigeria --

Not too long ago, Nigerian Police captured a notorious car thief.  With the help of Nigerian Vigilante's, the armed suspect was brought into the police station where he was held until the investigation was deemed over.  Did I mention that the car thief captured was a Goat?  Yeah, a Goat ... an armed goat.  The story goes like this ... the 'goat' stole a car, then used Witchcraft to change shape ... into a goat.  I don't know, but I would have changed into an Eagle, or maybe a lion, but a goat?  Nigeria's fascination with Witches is a bit much.

Nigerian Police aren't among the brightest in the practice, many of whom didn't even finish middle-school.  Lucky for us, most American police have finished Middle-School ... some of whom even know how to read.

Unfortunately, Nigeria doesn't seem to be progressing much in their hunt for Witches.  With such poor results, they decided to go after witches at their source ... the children.  The best way to rid the world of witches is to get them while they are young and inexperienced.  Once they learn how to transform into, say, a goat, capture becomes more difficult.

To take a quote out of context, 76 year old Eshiett Nelson Eshiett says that he learned of his grandson being a witch by ...

One day, I took a broom to hit him and he started crying. Then I knew he was possessed by demons. ... Nigerian witches are terrified of brooms.

Right, because children never cry when getting beat by a broom, that's just bizarre.  But, I also hear that when you beat kids with belts they also have a tendency to cry ... maybe I am onto something?  To make matters even worse,

"Children accused of witchcraft are often incarcerated in churches for weeks on end and beaten, starved and tortured in order to extract a confession," said Gary Foxcroft, program director of Stepping Stones Nigeria, a nonprofit that helps alleged witch children in the region.

Ah, the religious ... always going the extra mile.  Why is it not surprising that the church is involved?
