Maxim and Karina went to the bathroom together and I went to bed,’ she told the court.

‘I was sleepy but heard splashes of water and some noise there but was not worried. Sometime later I woke up and decided to check what was going on.

‘I went to the bathroom but Yury stopped me on the way and told me to go back to bed.

‘They had joked earlier that they could kill Karina but, of course, I couldn’t believe for a second that they were serious.’

Next day when she got home from work, Maxim and Yury offered Ekaterina meat and potatoes. She allegedly ate it not knowing where it was from.

The investigation ascertained that on Jan. 19, the girl had gone to the apartment of Glavatskikh, with whom she was in love. A large group of young people gathered at the apartment, and after drinking alcohol, most of the guests went home, leaving Glavatskikh and Mozhnov with the girl. They drowned her in the bathtub before proceeding to hack up her body into pieces.

The killers then put the body parts into plastic bags, which they hid inside a suitcase. They baked some parts of the body in the oven along with potatoes and spices and ate them, the investigation found earlier.

They also stole some of the girl’s belongings, including her cell phone, camera and music player.

The final stage of the court case became very tense as victim’s relatives and witnesses received threats and a profile was made with the victim’s name on the VKontakte social networking site using the profile image of a disfigured female face.
The case became famous as the killers are “members of the informal youth organizations ‘goths’ and ’emo.'” The case drew considerable scrutiny to the musical subcultures of St. Petersburg.
The guys accepted their guilt right away claiming that they were “drunk and hungry“.
