It is hard to image exactly what type of porn would justify sending a couple to jail, but apparently the US Department of Justice managed to justify it for the owners of Extreme Associates, an extreme porn industry.

Extreme Associates and owners Robert Zicari, also known as Rob Black, 35, and his wife, Janet Romano, aka Lizzie Borden, 32, pleaded guilty in March to a felony charge of conspiracy to distribute obscene material through the mail and over the Internet. They were sentenced Wednesday.

They were, in fact, sentenced to one year and one day in prison.  Again, I must ask, what type of porn were they distributing?  I am not an avid fan of extreme porn, I personally prefer beautiful women ... lots of beautiful women ... the more the merrier, I always say.  But, I can't help but wonder what kind of porn would be rewarded with jail time. 

"Extreme Associates produced and distributed sexually degrading material that portrayed women in the most vile and depraved manner imaginable," U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan, of the Western District of Pennsylvania, said in a statement. "These prison sentences affirm the need to continue to protect the public from obscene, lewd, lascivious or filthy material, the production of which degrades all of us."

It seems that the films depicted simulated rape and murder, which definitely fits into the 'extreme' category.  While I definitely agree that this is the type of stuff that is disgusting to no end, sending people to prison for it seems unconstitutional.  If the participants in the film are willing, and those purchasing the films are willing, where is the problem?  In the end, this is advertising that money can't buy.  Unfortunately for Extreme Associates, their torrents are probably going crazy now.

On a similar note, how bored does the Federal Government have to be to finance such nonsense?  It seems that they have solved all the nations problems, so they have reverted to going after the porn industry.  What a joke!
