WEIRD: Underwear Robber
A topless man who robbed a convenience store at knife point early Wednesday morning was wearing underwear - as a mask.
Police arrested Dennis Grey Stone, 46, on suspicion of robbing a Stripes in the 1900 block of John Stockbauer Drive at about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The bare-chested robber, described as a heavy-set, black man wearing jeans and a mask, carried a knife, a store employee told police.
The clerk ran when the masked man entered, Chief Bruce Ure said. The robber also fled.
Officers searched for a silver sedan, similar to a PT Cruiser, based on witness description, Ure said.
As police searched the area, Sgt. Eline Moya noticed a silver Ford Focus parked beside the Cimmaron Express at 1402 John Stockbauer Drive. Inside the car, Stone was putting on a white T-shirt, Ure said.
When Moya turned on her patrol car's flood lights, the man fled in the sedan and officers chased him for more than four miles, Ure said.
The car was stopped in the 6500 block of Lone Tree Road. A pair of black underwear - Ure did not know if they were boxers or briefs - was found in the car, along with a crack pipe.
Stone, a Victoria resident, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, evading arrest with a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police suspect Stone committed at least two more recent robberies, in which convenience store clerks were threatened with knives.
He was being held at the Victoria County Jail.
