WEIRD: Want a designated driver? Call Scooter Crew!
Have you ever been in a situation where your designated driver got drunk or you forgot to assign one? Kansas City has a new service for you - "a designated driver for demand". This service is a new style of taxi service in Kansas City that has its drivers throwing their fold-up scooters in the trunk of a car and driving people home in their own car as a designated driver.
"It;s a designated driving service," Jeff Seabaugh, co-owner of Scootercrew, said. "We provide for folks that need a way home."
Seabaugh said the idea for the business originated in London and has been successful there.
Seabaugh said his drivers are just a phone call away on their scooter.
"When folks call us, we arrive at their car or restaurant," Seabaugh said. "They fold up their scooter and put in their car and take them home in their car."
The service is $10, plus $3 per mile.
Seabaugh said the price is more than a cab, but said his service saves people from having to pick their car up the next day.
"We have folks using the service and enjoying it," Seabaugh said. "Folks are happy to wake up the next morning with a headache and their car."
Seabaugh said he's had customers use the crew when they have had outpatient medical procedures and can't drive home. He said he hopes to expand to wedding receptions and other events where designated drivers are always welcome.Source: www.kctv5.com
