WEIRD: Mysterious Ice Chunk destroys roof and gutter of a Chicago home
Paul Dowd was siting in the north side of his house at around 7:52pm when a loud bang shook his whole house. He and his family ran out to find that a huge chunk of house had fallen on their roof.
"The whole house shook," she said outside the North Wolcott Avenue home, while her son held up baseball-size ice chunks in a plastic bag. The falling object caved in the corner of their 5-year-old roof dormer and showered ice through their front yard as they watched TV a few feet away. "I thought the chimney fell. My husband thought maybe the 'L' fell off the tracks."Source: www.chicagotribune.com
Since the Dowds live near the airport and their house is in the flight path, my first reaction was - what if the chunk was septic - with colorful human wastes?
Though the ice dropped due east of O'Hare's Runway 28, where planes were landing when the ice fell, it was not the septic, lavatory-blue found in other large ice falls from aircraft. Clear ice usually falls from planes in sheets, not chunks, said aviation experts.Source: www.chicagotribune.com
Since there were no storms nearby, the next best culprit could be a meteorite. But meteorite full of ice entering earth atmosphere would all vaporize. Other possibilities might be a commercial passenger aircraft with a leak? Alien space ship releasing some of its alien excrements? Act of God?
Tony Molinaro, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, said investigators would track down any planes flying over the home around 8 p.m. last night to see if they sprung a leak. The home, he said, was about 10 miles from an O'Hare runaway.
"Ice is possible but it's an odd time of year for it," he said.

It is easy to find the real culprit - check the flight that landed around 8pm on the runway that uses the flight plan above the home. Easy!
I wonder if the Dowds will be able to get the $500 deductible from the culprit airline?
