WEIRD: Dont Want to Eat Your Babys Placenta After Birth? Why Not Make a Teddy Bear Instead?
Yes, people actually do eat their baby's placenta after birth, I am not making this stuff up. I know that this is disgusting, but I am not sure it is substantially better than the alternative presented by British designer Alex Green. Alex Green wasn't too excited about eating his babies placenta, so he decided that the placenta would be put to much better use as a cuddly teddy bear. Yeah, imagine your baby playing with his placenta at 2 years old. Puts a smile on your face, doesn't it?
So, like any normal person, my initial thought was ... what in God's name caused this epiphany of creativity? Wasn't too difficult to find ...
"I was very interested in how it was discarded unceremoniously as medical waste, why it's discarded and how we could bring it back…" said Green, who thought placentas deserved a symbolic treatment whether they're saved or not. "It was really about provoking a debate about placentas and how we treat them."Source: www.myfoxdc.com
So, there you have it, the Placenta is the new Holy body part that needs to be used. You know, I have an idea, why not take the piece of the Penis that is cut off during circumcision, tailor it into a little hat, and put it on the placenta teddy bear? Seems perfectly reasonable. Personally, I would have more of an attachment to my lost flap of skin than my discarded placenta.

From the blog link -
Being pregnant, I’m always looking for articles on the subject, and tonight I found this. It’s about new moms who ingest their placenta, in hopes that the beefy-looking glob–rich in estrogen and progesterone–will ward off the baby blues. The women believe that consuming the hormone-laden mass will restore their hormone levels that were depleted while giving birth, according to the article.
While eating the placenta is common among some mammals, no scientific studies have proven that human-placenta ingestion provides positive health benefits.
So let me get this straight: We don’t even know if it works, and women are eating their placenta anyways? I’ve always been a picky eater, but isn’t this gross?
The article says that the placenta can be made into pizza toppings and other edible items or encapsulated, but still. It’s just yuck.
Call me narrow-minded, call me unenlightened, but if I get a bout of the baby blues after delivering this baby, I’ll happily take a prescription drug. There’s no shame in it.
To anyone out there who has eaten their placenta, or plans to, I’d love to hear from you. Please enlighten me.

Thou shalt not judge! But this is way too weird!
Doesn't it make you feel a little cannibalistic?

OMG!!!! Quick, somebody KILL IT!!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!

Weird - just weird!

I know some people who have eaten placenta and they claim it has nutritional value as well as what was mentioned above. I personally think it's disgusting whatever no matter how it's cooked... if I ever give birth, they can discard my placenta as medical waste and I won't be the least bit upset. I also agree there's no shame in taking something to help with depression (maybe I should put a link here for that Alanis Morisette column?). One other alternative i have heard of when it comes to placenta is people planting a tree and putting it under the roots... Although if you live in the city, you could get a fine and if you live in the burbs, you never know what kind of animal might come along and think it's found a tasty meal...
