WORLD: Pat Robertson Blames Haiti's Earthquake On Its Victims

Haitian Earthquake

On Wednesday, Christian televangelist Pat Robertson of the "700 Club," while stating his Christian Broadcasting Network will be there “to help the people," blamed the disaster on the victims. He said that the earthquake was a result of a "pact with the devil" that the Haitians made long ago.

Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. Napoleon the Third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, “We will serve you if you get us free from the prince.” True story. And so the devil said, “OK, it’s a deal.” They kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free.

But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle, on the one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island.

They need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy I’m optimistic something good may come. But right now, we’re helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.

It's interesting that they need to turn to God, since 80 percent of them are professed to be Roman Catholic. Of course, Robertson is the same person who has linked terrorism and Hurricane Katrina to legalized abortion.

WORLD:  Pat Robertson: Predictions

He claims that his predictions are sometimes a miss and sometimes true, but check them. None of them have ever come true. Makes me wonder on the reason why we listen to such an imbecile?

Check his predictions (from here) -

1982: Doomsday - MISSED!

In late 1976, Robertson predicted that the end of the world was coming in November or October 1982. In a May 1980 broadcast of The 700 Club he stated, "I guarantee you by the end of 1982 there is going to be a judgment on the world."

2006: Pacific Northwestern tsunami - MISSED!

In May 2006, Robertson declared that storms and possibly a tsunami would hit America's coastline sometime in 2006. Robertson supposedly received this revelation from God during an annual personal prayer retreat in January. The claim was repeated four times on The 700 Club.

On May 8, 2006 Robertson said, "If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms." On May 17, 2006 he elaborated, "There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest." While this claim didn't garner the same level of controversy as some of his other statements, it was generally received with mild amusement by the Pacific Northwest media. The History Channel's initial airing of its new series, Mega Disasters: West Coast Tsunami, was broadcast the first week of May.

2007: Terror attack - MISSED!

On the January 2, 2007 broadcast of The 700 Club, Robertson said that God spoke to him and told him that "mass killings" were to come during 2007, due to a terrorist attack on the United States. He added, "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."When a terrorist attack failed to happen in 2007, Robertson said, in January 2008, "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us."

2008: Worldwide violence and American recession
- MISSED!

On the January 2, 2008 episode of The 700 Club, Pat Robertson predicted that 2008 would be a year of worldwide violence. He also predicted that a recession would occur in the United States that would be followed by a stock market crash by 2010.

2008: Mideast Meltdown
- MISSED!

In October 2008 Robertson posted a press release on the Georgian Conflict speculating that the conflict is a Russian ploy to enter the Middle East, and that instability caused by a predicted pre-emptive strike by Israel on Iran would result in Syria and Iran launching nuclear strikes on other targets. He also said that if the United States were to oppose Russia's expansion, nuclear strikes on American soil are also pending. "We will suffer grave economic damage, but will not engage in military action to stop the conflict. However, we may not be spared nuclear strikes against coastal cities. In conclusion, it is my opinion that we have between 75 and 120 days before the Middle East starts spinning out of control."

Let us all start ignoring him!

WORLD:  Pat Robertson Blames Haiti's Earthquake On Its Victims

Virginia Beach --

(From Yahoo News) - A White House spokesman on Thursday slammed evangelist broadcaster Pat Robertson's remark that Haiti has been cursed.

A devastating magnitude-7 earthquake hit there Tuesday.

"It never ceases to amaze me that in times of amazing human suffering somebody says something that can be so utterly stupid," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

The day after the earthquake, Robertson said Haiti has been "cursed" because of what he called a "pact with the devil" in its history. His spokesman said the comments were based on Voodoo rituals carried out before a slave rebellion against French colonists in 1791.

Spokesman Chris Roslan says Robertson never said the earthquake was God's wrath.

Earlier, senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett said on ABC's "Good Morning America" that Robertson's statement left her speechless. She called it "a pretty stunning comment to make" and said it doesn't express the spirit of the American people or the president.

I am not sure what is worse, the fact that Pat Robertson feels inclined to make such ridiculous statement, or the fact that his contingent is so blind that they can't see how ridiculous his statements often are.

This is the real problem with religion and why Atheism is gaining such ground.  It is no wonder that higher intelligence is inversly proportional to your likelyhood of becoming religious.  Call it snobish, or what you will, but it doesn't take away from the truth of the matter.

yes, Haiti may profess to be Roman Catholic...but they are 100% voodoo.  Just because they "made a pact with the devil" doesn't mean the devil actually stood there...maybe he did...maybe he didn't . They did devilish things...your just playing on words...playing word games...

Wendy, you're joking right?  In case you're not, what do you know about Voodoo? ... asside from the garbage you see in films, of course.

Also, what does Atheism gaining in the USA have anything to do with how it was founded?

Just the day after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Pat Robertson has shocked a lot of people by speaking off-the-cuff. There is no excuse, other than mental illness or being completely whacked out on drugs for Pat Robertson saying that the earthquake in Haiti was caused by Haitians making a pact with the devil when they were trying to liberate themselves from the French.  He furthermore stated they were being oppressed by Napoleon the Third – the joke being that he wasn't born yet when Haiti gained independence.   This kind of lunacy should result in him getting so busted and broke he needs to get payday loans to broadcast another of his "sermons" of hate, but it probably won't work out that way.
