WORLD:  Gunman opens fire at Binghamton's American Civic Association Building ; at least 13 dead

Agree
Binghamton, New York, USA --

There are confirmations everywhere that in fact 13 people were killed before the attacker took his own life.

This is another tragic tale of depression gone bad.  There has always been a correlation between sudden poverty and suicides, but this new trend of people taking out their rage on those they deem worthy is extremely scary.

President Barack Obama, who was traveling in Europe, said he was shocked and saddened by the shooting, which he called an "act of senseless violence."

Senseless seems to be the wrong word to use these day.  It almost seems like 'fashionable' violence.  With one attack after the other, it seems that these violent outbursts need to be handled slightly differently.  How do you identify an attacker before hand?  What can we do to convince all members of society that these types of actions do no good for anyone?

With the trendyness of these mass murder/suicide attacks, our only hope is that we as individuals aren't claimed in a future attack.

WORLD:  Gunman identified

Neutral
Binghamton, New York, USA --

The gunman who fatally shot 13 people at Binghamton's American Civic Association has been identified. Jiverly Voong (also known as Jiverly  Wong), the 41 year old Vietnamese immigrant, entered the building wearing a bulletproof jacket, two handguns and a satchel of ammunition. It is reported that he did the whole carnage because he felt disrepected because he could not speak english very well and was recently fired from his job. He took english classes at the same civic association building.

The attack seems pre-meditated with the arrangements he made - bullet proof vest, closing the back door shut, etc.

There are more details coming out about the suspect - regarding his hate for America and love for guns.

Kevin Greene, who once worked with 41-year-old mass murderer Jiverly Voong, said a question about a New York Yankees T-shirt he was wearing brought out his dark side.

Greene said, "I asked him if he liked the Yanks," and "he said, 'No, I don't like that team. I don't like America. America sucks.'"

Donald Ackley, another former Shop Vac employee, said Voong "kept to himself but made some of off-the-wall comments like he wanted to kill the President."

Greene said Voong's conversations often focused on weapons. "He went to target practice on Saturday. He said he had two guns, one in his glove compartment. He was always talking about his guns."

Neighbors said he was often seen helping his dad, Henry, tend the succulent apples and berries he grew behind his modest frame house.

"They're a nice family, they're great neighbors," said Barbara Monell, 25, who lives next door. "My nephews go over to eat his apples and berries. They're always invited to come over and eat his fruit." [Link]

Does it mean that we need to rethink our diversity theories?

If you are going to kill yourself and take down as many people as possible with you, would you try and do it at a Gun Show or an NRA convention? No, you go to a place where you know the people won’t be able to fight back.
