Shooting seems to have started at 1:30pm. The shooting started at about 1:30 p.m., according to a military statement, reportedly in the Sports Dome, which now serves as a center for soldiers and families preparing for deployment. A second shooting was reported at a theater. Fort Hood is shut down and no one is being allowed on or off post. An alert posted on the Fort Hood Web site says, "Effective immediately Fort Hood is closed." The Web site said that units at the base have been ordered to account for all personnel. The site says, "This is not a Drill. It is an Emergency Situation." Killeen ISD officials say all nine schools on post are on lock down because of the situation. Students at those schools were to have been released early, but parents are being advised they cannot yet pick up children. Temple ISD reports they are on a "soft" lock down in connection with the Fort Hood. "Temple Police Department requested Temple ISD place all campuses and district buildings in a soft lockdown, due to a situation at Fort Hood, TISD spokesperson Regina Corley told News 10 by news release.
Fort Hood, near the town of Killeen, is the largest US base in the world. Home to about 40,000 US troops, the base lies between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (97 km) from each city.
This is not the first time whne Fort Hood has been involved in violent acts.
In September 2008, a 21-year-old Fort Hood soldier shot to death his lieutenant during a confrontation at his off-base apartment before turning the gun on himself.
The lieutenant and a staff sergeant went to the Army specialist's apartment, and a confrontation ensued. Killeen police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun, and they saw the specialist hit and then shoot the lieutenant as they arrived at the scene, Killeen police spokesman Carroll Smith said.
Two months later a New York parolee with an extensive criminal record was executed for robbing, raping and fatally shooting an Army medic at her apartment near Fort Hood.
Denard Manns, 42, who came to Texas after a second prison sentence in New York for armed robbery, was condemned for the murder 10 years ago of Michelle Robson, 26.
In July of 2009, Fort Hood Spc. Armano Baca was charged with murdering fellow soldier Spc. Ryan Richard Schlack from Wisconsin.
Baca and Schlack were members of the 1st Calvary Division and had recently returned from tours in Iraq.
Schlack was shot during a party at the Central Texas Army post and died at a Fort Hood hospital July 18.
Three months ago Spc. Jared Lee Bottorff was charged with murder after a shooting at a party near the post.
At the time, police said Bottorff and another soldier was at a party at house when a fight broke out and someone was shot and killed.
Bottorff was jailed on $1 million bond.

Though with at least 2 shooters, it seems like a well-coordinated attack.
