WORLD: In Teens, Alcohol Use Down While Marijuana Use Up ... WOO HOO!!!
Great news from the statistics front ... among teens, alcohol use is down, cigarette smoking is down ... but marijuana use is up. Unfortunately, prescription drug use is up too, but this has more to do with the fact that prescription drugs are pushed on everyone and their mothers than anything else.
Among students in Grade 12 this year, 20.6 per cent said they used it within the past month, compared to 19.4 per cent in 2008 and 18.3 per cent in 2006.
Among Grade 10 students, marijuana use in the past month rose to 15.9 per cent this year from 13.8 per cent in 2008.

It seems like it is only a matter of time before marijuana is finally legalized.
But, we can't have news like this without a little propaganda to scare the American parents ...
'When beliefs soften, drug use worsens,' says Obama's drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, referring to a study that shows fewer teens believe use of marijuana, inhalants, LSD and Ecstasy is risky.Source: www.latimes.comAll I can say to that is BULL SHIT. By villainizing marijuana you aren't doing any good, you are in fact doing more harm. You are in turn supporting the use of alcohol in teens which is substantially more dangerous. Not to mention, a large portion of teens that were lied to during the 'drugs are evil' classes will, after trying drugs for the first time, become addicts rather than intelligent users ... or better yet, experimenters.
Don't lie to your kids, and don't spread propaganda in the schools. These latest reports shouldn't be seen as such a downer. Personally, I take this as a triumph for marijuana and a loss for alcohol.
The following video has a short clip on these latest findings ... take a look:

i am happy to see the kids are getting smarter. only loosers drink alcohol, remember that.

yes, great news. but do u think maybe teens will use something we never known??

Teen drug use has been a major problem for US teens for some time and leads to huge disorders later in life. My client Silver Hill Hospital excels in providing
Adolescent psychiatric treatment programs for those in need of a healthy beginning.

I was a teenager recently, and I can only speak for myself and the people that I know... The more we find out that the government has been lying to us about marijuana (addictiveness, brain damage, overall health effects), the more suspicious we are of other propaganda. It's the mentality of "well, the government said this about marijuana, and it's saying the same thing about _____, so it's probably a lie in this case as well."
When the government puts out blanket propaganda saying every illegal drug will ruin our lives, but we can do a quick encyclopedia search and find out that legal drugs are usually more dangerous than illegal drugs, well...
So, yeah, honest information would be nice. It's the government's responsibility to educate us about the things we consume (via Surgeon General warnings on the package) not keep us from consuming them.
